Fill your cup up first
What’s in the cup is mine, what comes out of the cup is yours.
You’ve got to be so self-FULL before you can become self-LESS or like that good ol saying “fill your cup up first.” Logically it makes sense because nothing can pour out over the edges until the cup’s completely and overly full but metaphorically this is everything.
If you have nothing to give you can’t give anything.
If you only have 50% then you can only give 50%
but when you have 100% you can give 100%.
When watching an empowering video by Iyanla VanZant with a friend on “Top 10 ways to be successful” #2 was “Do what you love” Iyanla said, “Do what you love or run for your life, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!” Yes that loudly and that passionately! My maybe skeptical girlfriend looked at me and said “Well what if everyone did that, not many people would work? and how would the world go around when nobody wants to do a shitty job? and how do you explain that theory to people less fortunate where they have to do the job they do because they have no other choice?”
All very good points and yes what WOULD happen to the world if everybody actually DID do what they loved? We’ll we would never know unless every single one of us, all 7.6 Billion*, actually gave it a fair go? All theories are true until proven wrong and you can’t prove a theory wrong unless you actually tried genuinely, honestly and thoroughly. As much as I would love for this theory to be tested, realistically I’m not going to hold my breath until it does.
The response to automatically being worried about everybody else’s part and how the entire world would cope before checking in with the self is diverging from the entire point. Ain’t nothing wrong with helping people or wanting world peace and diminishing poverty but we are not here to walk anybody else’s path but our own. The key word in doing what “YOU” love is “you” nobody else.
Get yourself in check before you check in with anybody else. This is like the oxygen mask on the plane scenario. You must put yours on first before helping the person next to you or else you’ll be dead and no use to the world. We aren’t here to play god but to play in god’s kingdom – however you want to take that. Ultimately we are just here to play and why can’t you play your favorite game!?
