Feeling stuck!? Try this…

A Foolproof 4-Step Process to Getting Unstuck

  1. Get clear on WHAT you want and recognise how you're feeling

  • You can't get what you want unless you know what it is

  • So many of us focus on the "how" or get stuck in "analysis paralysis" (who is with me?)

  • Be very specific with: description, dates, times, numbers, etc.

  • Daily: Visualise it, say it out loud, make a vision board, whatever is available to you

  • Recognise how you're feeling at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of this process. If you can understand your triggers and rewards you can successfully break a habit loop * see my podcast + book recommendatio

  • Example: I wanted to write this blog by Wednesday morning but I didn't know what to write so I kept procrastinating hoping I would just tell myself it was okay NOT to do it. That it wasn't necessary. That I had nothing useful to say. I was feeling uninspired.

2.  Little bites of bravery

  • Clarity comes through engagement not thought

  • You can recognise procrastion and still take action

  • Take one step at a time in the direction towards what you want

  • Start small, do what is realistic and sustainable to YOU

  • Stop comparing and competing - it's a vicious cycle

  • If monthly or weekly goals are too daunting make a daily schedule of To Do's so you can check things off and feel accomplished multiple times a day. Keep momentum

  • Example: Monday I logged into and started typing. That's all I could do.

3.  Recognise Defeat

  • Like the Rolling Stones say, You can't always get what you want. Learn to let go of control and make friends with the fact that things won't always work out EXACTLY how you planned, wished and hoped - that's life!

  • You will at some point feel guilty for not doing enough or feel like you messed up, failed or did something wrong.  It's part of the process but instead of pushing those things down and denying your humanness - just recognise the truth and move on.

  • Remember a good scientist isn't "good" because of all the successful experiments, it's by messing up (continuously) that she/ he finds the perfect formula.

  • Example: On Monday I wrote for about thirty minutes and I was feeling more inspired but my partner suggested we go on a bike ride. Then we had dinner and then I watched two more hours of Netflix and went to bed feeling like I didn't do enough.

4.  Repeat repeat repeat

  • Repeat in order

  • Put one foot in front of the other and keep going

  • Example: Tuesday morning I got up and said it's a new day + a new start to the week. I logged onto and completed my task by Tuesday afternoon. Now I know when I start making excuses or get discouraged, just start typing.
