8 attitudes of happiness

I'm always going on about Mindfulness. Why is that? We'll it's because it has helped me cultivate a better attitude in life. Hands down. 

I don't think I was a mean, nasty, horrible person BEFORE but I could have used an attitude adjustment and better tools to "deal" when things got heavy in life. 

Most of us weren't taught these things. We were told to sit down, pay attention and be still but nobody ever taught us how to do that.

We were commanded and expected to instinctively know these things as children, but we didn't, so now we have to learn as adults and we all know how fun that can be

I'm not here to convince you that sitting down, paying attention and being still is "Fun," because it's not. But I can tell you with confidence that it can improve every area of your life. A LOT. 

Not all at once. It's not a quick fix, a fad, or the best new diet regime but it is backed with heaps of science. That's why I think it's interesting!

**Random story about Denzel Washington (the guy in the GIF) he said in an interview when he turned 60 years old he locked himself in a room for a week (by himself) because he didn't want to spend the next 60 years like he did the first, so he needed to understand himself better. **

The root of all suffering comes down to the simple fact that we wish whatever our REALITY is, to be DIFFERENT in some way shape or form.

Mindfulness doesn't give you a "get out of jail reality card" so you can escape, it helps you cultivate attitudes so that you can BE present with reality exactly how it is. Here are those:

  1. Beginners Mind

    • Free of expectations of past experiences

  2. Non-Judgement 

    • An impartial witness to your experience 

  3. Acceptance 

    • A willingness to see things the way they are

  4. Non-Striving 

    • No goal other than to be yourself

  5. Letting Be 

    • Allow things to be as they are 

  6. Trust/ Self-Reliance 

    • Learning to trust one's own experiences 

  7. Patience 

    • To be completely in each moment as it is

  8. Self-Compassion

    • Love for ourselves exactly as we are without blame or criticism
